These artists got down and messy today – sketchbooks were first on the list for class this afternoon. The artists layered a variety of paint on top of the etched gesso they created last week. The girls were amazed at the way the etchings turned out. We were all quite messy when we were done. They had a blast. After the gesso page, I showed the artists how to use their leftover paint in their sketchbooks. They used their palette knives to paint extra pages. Now they have colorful surfaces ready for writing or drawing. Wa-la! They are great at not wasting paint. After the painting the artists gathered their scarves, flowers, hearts and stars. I asked each artist to trace their images on the fusible webbing. Next week they should start the stitching with the ‘blanket ” stitch. After the scarves they will start Radial Symmetry Sand Dollars.
