These young artists worked on different projects this week. Maverick is working on a mixed media self portrait and Sarah is working on her kodra (a papercut artwork from Poland.) Maverick started working on his background. He decided to collage a torn map and some old Monopoly money for the background. He was elbow deep in Mod Podge! Sarah worked on her intricate kodra. It is a peacock. Too cool. We missed Evie. She had family in so couldn’t make class. For Art History we studied “Fur Traders Descending the Missouri”, 1845, Bingham. We discussed the importance of furs during the 1800′s, trading and the conflicts between the Indians and the pioneers. This painting with a very peaceful mood is a contrast to the upheaval in the frontier (pioneers vs. the Indians.) The artists went back to work after the art history and literally worked until their moms came in the studio. I love it when the artists don’t want to stop working!
